The FACE that Demonstrates the FARCE of Evolution

by Hank Hanegraaf; Word Publishing, Nashville. 1998

Memory aides are a great benefit in trying to teach others. They can help give us confidence and direction. The Face that Demonstrates the Farce of Evolution provides memory aides in the form of acronyms. The book is easy to read and contains many good ideas for answering evolutionists on their own turf. In brief, the acronym FACE is broken down as follows:

F stands for Fossil Follies. Hanegraaf reminds us that the fossil record is actually an embarrassment to evolutionists. It does not support the general theory of evolution at all. There is no fossil evidence of transitional forms in the fossil record. This is why new theories, such as punctuated equilibrium, are evolving.

A stands for Ape-men, Fiction, Fraud, and Fantasy. Hanegraaf shows how the fictitious "ape-men" have been pushed off on the public. "The distance between an ape who cannot read or write and a descendant of Adam who can compose a musical materpiece or send someone to the moon is the distance of infinity."

C stands for Chance. In this section he discusses the improbability of vastly complex organisms or features coming about by pure chance. Chance does not in any way support evolutionary theory.

E stands for Empirical Science. He tests the theory of evolution "in light of reason and empirical science rather than rhetoric and emotional stereotypes." The principles of science "undergird the creation model for origins and undermine the evolutionary model."

After discussing each of these, Hanegraaf then adds R to the acronym to make the word FARCE. R stands for Recapitulation, the notion that in the course of an embryo’s development, it repeats the evolutionary history of its species. "Thus, at various points the emerging embryo is a fish, then a frog, and finally a fetus. This theory not only relies on revisionistic history but has also been used as justification for Roe v. Wade and racism."

The book also contains appendices on related topics such as abortion, the inspiration of the Bible, and the resurrection. Overall the book is well written, containing good ideas. He doesn’t tell the whole truth about how to be saved, but if you read the book for ideas on dealing with evolution, then it is worthwhile. The foreword is written by Phillip E. Johnson.
